DIY Solar Pool Heating Kits: Same Zane Product, Hands-On Install
Beasley Pool Heating supplies Zane Gulfstream DIY solar pool heating kits in five sizes (18, 22, 28, 33 and 40 square metres), shipped Australia-wide. Each kit contains the same Zane TPR collectors we install professionally, along with all fittings, mounting hardware, vacuum relief valves and installation instructions. Phone and email support from our Adelaide team is available throughout your install. The DIY option suits handy owners, or pools outside our installation area, at substantially lower total cost than professional installation.
We do offer our premium hardened polymer Zane Gulfpanel as DIY, which uses a simple threaded union connection for installation. Because the panel comes in fixed sizes, and your roof's dimensions and layout vary, we strongly recommend speaking with us to help design this option. This is free of charge, just like a quote.

Who DIY pool heating kits are right for
DIY isn't for everyone, and we'll tell you so honestly. Solar pool heating installation involves working at height, getting plumbing right, and following a methodical process. If that sounds like your kind of project, or you're outside our service area, DIY makes a lot of sense. Here's specifically who it suits.
A DIY Zane Gulfstream kit is right for you if you:
Solar pool heating collectors mount on your roof. You'll need to be safe at height, work methodically, and use appropriate fall protection. Two people is much easier than one.
Want to save on labour costs
The DIY kit is substantially cheaper than a professionally installed system because you're providing the labour. The product is identical.
Live outside metro Adelaide
If you're in regional SA, interstate, or somewhere we don't install, the DIY kit gives you access to the same Zane product without our install fee. We ship Australia-wide.
Have plumbing or trades experience, and a project mindset
Plumbing connections, fittings and vacuum relief valves all need to be done right. If you've got trades experience, or you know someone who does, and you enjoy a methodical, instruction-led project, DIY is genuinely satisfying.
When DIY is NOT right:
You aren't comfortable at height
Don't risk it. The labour saving isn't worth a fall. We install across metro Adelaide and into much of regional SA.
Your roof isn't suitable, or you want it done fast
DIY doesn't change the physics: if your roof isn't right for solar, no kit will fix that, you'll need a heat pump instead. And if you want it completed properly by this weekend, get us to do it.

One thing the kit doesn't include
The kits are designed to have all the components needed to build the solar collector on the roof. This does not include the PVC pipe and fittings required to get from the pool equipment up to your roof. We can supply this for an additional fee, or you can find the necessary supplies at your local hardware store.
A WEEKEND PROJECT
What a DIY Gulfstream install actually involves
A weekend project for most handy owners, a long weekend if it's your first time on a roof. Here's what's involved, start to finish.
1. Confirm sizing, order, and plan your install
Use the sizing calculator or call us to confirm, then order online; most kits arrive within 1 to 2 weeks. Before install day, read the instructions cover to cover and plan your collector layout, plumbing run and controller wiring. There's a tools checklist in the instructions.
2. Install the collectors on the roof (most of Day 1)
Mount the collectors using the supplied hardware. Work methodically. Two people is much faster and safer than one. Use appropriate fall protection.
3. Run plumbing and connect to your pool equipment (Day 1 / Day 2)
Plumb from your existing pool circulation up to the collectors and back. Install the vacuum relief valve. Standard plumbing skills apply, this is where some owners get a plumber for a few hours' help.
4. Install the controller and sensors (Day 2)
Mount the controller, install the roof and pool sensors, wire it up per the instructions. Standard electrical work, if you're not comfortable, get an electrician for an hour.
5. Commission the system, then enjoy years 1 to 25
Fill the system, check for leaks, set the controller, run an initial cycle. Call us if anything's not behaving as expected. Properly installed Zane TPR systems regularly run up to 25 years, with service and parts available from us if you ever need them.

Yes. The Zane Gulfstream collectors, controller, sensors, valves and fittings in our DIY kits are identical to the Zane Gulfstream systems we install professionally. The only difference is the labour, you're providing it instead of us. This is the same for the Zane Gulfpanels.
A weekend for most handy owners, typically one full day on the collectors and roof work, half a day on plumbing and the controller. First-time installers should plan for a long weekend to give themselves time to read instructions and work methodically.
Standard handyman skills, comfortable working at height, basic plumbing connections, and basic electrical wiring for the controller. The instructions include a tools checklist. Some owners bring in a plumber or electrician for a few hours of help on the plumbing or wiring steps.

Yes, DIY kits ship Australia-wide; shipping is calculated at checkout and delivery is typically 1 to 2 weeks depending on location. To avoid ordering the wrong size, use our solar sizing calculator or call us first, we'd rather take 10 minutes on the phone than have you receive the wrong kit. If you do realise after delivery that you've ordered wrong, get in touch and we'll work out an exchange where possible (subject to standard return terms).
The Zane manufacturer warranty applies to all components, same as a professional install. Installation workmanship is your responsibility on a DIY install (since you're doing the install), but we'll support you to make sure it's done right.

FINDING YOUR SIZE
The five DIY kit sizes, finding yours
Five kit sizes cover most residential pools. As a rule, you want the collector area roughly equal to your pool's surface area in Adelaide conditions. On a south-facing roof add 20 to 35% (usually one kit size up); in the Adelaide Hills or cooler regions add 10 to 20%; for heavily shaded roofs or a longer swim season, call us and we'll size it with you. The table below is a guide, and it also shows what you get from a Beasley Zane kit that a generic online kit doesn't give you.
